And now the Facts:
Chatsworth, CA. In 1988, two brothers started a machine shop in the San Fernando Valley with a conventional lathe and mill. This soon expanded into a 20,000 square foot building with state of the art single and multi axes computer controlled machinery. Fourteen years later – Hobby becomes creative work. In 1999 they began the work of designing Avet reels. In January of 2002, Avet Reels introduced a new line of saltwater reels designed to revolutionize the conventional reel market. Avet uses spur gearing in lower ratio models and featured a unique planetary gear system in high-speed retrieval models. This allows for effortless operation under demanding conditions imposed by anglers pursuing larger game fish species. This thoughtfully designed planetary gear system also allows for smaller gear case, lightening the reel and making it a better match for today’s lightweight rods. Six stainless steel ball bearings give the reel incredible smoothness and increased casting distance and free spool. An oversized carbon fiber drag system combined with stainless drag plates gives Avet Reels something that no other lever drag reel has – an ultra smooth drag with the ability to free spool at a full drag setting! With a frame, spool and sideplate fully machined from billet 6061-T6 aluminum stock, Avet Reels have incredible strength and corrosion resistance built into their design. A dual screw sideplate allows for easy takedown and maintenance. Avet Reels are currently offered in a durable type 2 anodizing and are available in silver, gold, metallic gray, and navy blue finishes. Avet reels also come standard with a rod clamp that attaches even when the spool is full of line.

Avet Reels has unveiled the flagship reel of the new line of 3-speed big game reels, the "Super Cow Special" EX 80-3 topless, with the industry’s first true 3-speed transmission. The spool holds 1500+ yds. of 130lb. spectra braid with plenty of room for topshot. The 3.2:1 high gear (46" per crank) will clear trolled lines quickly, and is perfect for kite fishing. The 2:1 mid gear (29" per crank) is the perfect speed to power ratio for battling fish, and the 1:1 low gear (14" per crank) provides plenty of brute winch power when needed. The EX 80-3 will generate 50 lbs. of drag at strike, and 57 lbs at full. This versatile reel is offered in Avet's exclusive black matte as well as Avet's famous colored anodized finishes. This is the first "true" 80 size offering from Avet, designed to fill the gap between the existing EXW 80-2 and the EXW 50-2, being the same diameter as the EXW 80, but narrower and topless. A 2-speed version of the new 80 topless is also available; the EX 80-2. The 3-speed EXW 80-3 will soon follow, for those who prefer the wide version with the top crossbar, and is tentatively dubbed the "Grander Special."
